One can be a citizen of the Kingdom, but not be a child of The KingMuch of what we understand about the Kingdom of God and/or the Kingdom of Heaven can be understood that it's actually two parts of the same Kingdom in the same way that salvation and sanctification is two parts unto a righteous and a complete relationship with Yahweh. It has recently come to my attention in my study of God's Word these two words ~ Enter ~ Inherit. I will list as many witnesses as possible that these words are used by our Lord Jesus. In order to understand this, we need to see to whom He was talking to and what the point of His teaching is, at the time.
First looking at the words ~ enter in ~ entering ~ enter into. Matt. 5: 20 ~ For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matt. 7: 13 ~ Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Matt. 7: 21 ~ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Matt. 18: 3 ~ And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matt. 19: 23 & 24 ~ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. (24) And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Matt. 23: 13 ~ But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
Mk. 10: 14 & 15 ~ But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. (15) Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
Mk. 10: 23 - 24 ~ And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! (24) And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
Lk. 13: 24 ~ Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
Lk. 18: 17 ~ Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
Jn. 3: 25 ~ Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Jn. 10: 1 & 2 ~ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. (2) But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
Acts 14: 22 ~ Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
Notice all of these instances speak in relation to salvation or entering into life from carnal death. Jesus berates the Pharisees because of their unbelief. Striving to enter into the narrow way unto salvation. Not everyone who calls Him Lord will be saved. The lovers of money won't receive life from the dead etc, you get the point. These are the only times Jesus used enter into in regard to the Kingdom of God/Heaven. Now looking at the words ~ inherit & inheritance ~ Jesus didn't say anything about inheriting the Kingdom of God/Heaven. Notice what He spoke of inheriting. Matt. 19: 29 ~ And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
Mk.10: 30 ~ But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
Mk. 10 : 17 ~ And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? Lk. 10: 25 ~ And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Lk. 18: 18 ~ And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Now, the first time inheriting the Kingdom of Heaven and/or Kingdom of God is spoken of is in ~ ~ Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, (10) Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. (11) And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Paul says it is necessary is to be washed with the water of The Word, santification unto service to God, and then final justification unto holiness is necessary for inheritance.
~ Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. There will be no flesh and blood bodies in Heaven. He is saying the carnal man has to completely be put to death to inherit everlasting life.
Gal 5: 19 - 26 ~ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, (20) Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, (21) Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (24) And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. (25) If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (26) Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Paul says anyone that lives after the desires of the flesh will not inherit eternal life.
Notice the deliniation between flesh and spirit in the above witnesses. Since we make up 2 people in one body, flesh and spirit, there are also 2 parts of the Kingdom of God. One we enter into through salvation by grace. The other we inherit by the sanctification of our carnal nature by the Holy Spirit abiding in us.
Some say it is a physical Kingdom, they are right, others say it is a spiritual Kingdom, they also are right. Gal. 4: 1 - 7 ~ Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; (2) But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. (3) Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: (4) But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, (5) To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. (6) And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. (7) Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
As Paul says, in no way will a child inherit all that is his father's. But he is still considered lord of all, even though he is in likewise a servant. He has to mature in the things of his father to be entrusted the estate. As God's law was a trainer in doing right and being right before God, Now that faith has come we are no longer under a trainer but are considered, in God's eyes equal to the Son as far as our inheritance is concerned.Col. 3: 23 - 25 ~ And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; (24) Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. (25) But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
Eph. 1: 9 - 14 ~ Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: (10) That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: (11) In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: (12) That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. (13) In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, (14) Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Look at the above witness in verse 14. The Amplified translation says it this way ~ That (Spirit) is the guarantee of our inheritance (the first fruits, the pledge and foretaste, the downpayment on our heritage), in anticipation of its full redemption and our acquiring (complete) possession of it--to the praise of His Glory. Notice, God's Word says we receive a title deed of the estate we are to inherit when we enter into life from death through salvation.
Eph. 5: 3 - 6 ~ But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; (4) Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. (5) For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. (6) Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Paul is warning the church here, not the lost, to not fall back into the depth that they escaped from lest they should lose their inheritance, which is everlasting life.
Heb. 9: 14 & 15 ~ How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (15) And for this cause He is the Mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
We all will agree that we all have to mature in the things of our Father. This is walking in sactification, even though we are still considered lord over the kingdom or co-heirs with Christ, through salvation by grace, because we are adopted sons of God. We just have to mature before we can inherit. As I said above, this maturing is through the putting off of the carnal nature and putting on of our spiritual or heavenly nature.
Just notice the scriptures, Jesus only talked of entering the Kingdom of God through salvation by the blood of the Lamb. He only talked of inheriting the Kingdom of Heaven through the trials and testing, and sanctification of our flesh and soul, the two men, the two kingdoms, but both are one in the same, in that they both belong to The King to do as He sees fit.
